Don’t let water damage put a damper on your spring.
That from SGI Canada as they shared some tips on how to protect your home from water damage caused by the snow melting.
SGI’s Kelley Brinkworth says there are some simple things people can do to prevent any kind of damage resulting from the spring melt, such as removing snow from your home’s foundation and roof, keeping gutters and downspouts free of debris, snow, and ice, and installing a sump pump or make sure your current one is working properly.
Brinkworth says if these preventative measures aren’t taken, they can prove costly.
Stats from last year, according to SGI Canada, showed 550 sewer back-up claims were reported, and they averaged over 22 thousand dollars.
Melting snow can also lead to additional moisture in the ground which can cause sewer back-up and basement seepage.
