Life in prison with no chance of parole for 20 years.
That was the sentence handed down to 35 year old Clayton Eichler, formerly of Yorkton, after pleading guilty to 2nd degree murder yesterday (Mon) in Regina.
The charges stem from the murders of Kelly Goforth and Richele Bear, both of whom were strangled to death in 2013.
Goforth’s body was found in September that year, while Bear’s body was never found. Richele’s mother Rachel Bear reacted to the sentence outside Regina Court of Queen’s Bench shortly after the sentence was given.
She said the apology offered by Eichler in court was hollow in her opinion, adding if he was indeed sorry for his actions, he would tell her where her daughter is.
Goforth’s mother said her family was shocked by the guilty pleas entered yesterday, but breathed a sigh of relief after being spared of what was originally planned to be a two-week trial.
