Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister has once again called on the federal government to join in pursuing a partnership on sustainable, long-term health-care funding.
Pallister referred to the shrinking of the federal funding of health care that will place additional strain on provinces and territories.
The premier says, that in order to protect health care, the federal government must fund it.
Medicare originated 50 years ago with cost sharing of health care between federal and provincial governments at a 50/50 partnership.
Today, provinces pay more than 75 per cent of health-care costs as growth in federal health-care funding continues to reduce.
