A Second Degree Murder trial resumes today in Yorkton Court of Queen’s Bench. 34-year-old Chester Whitehawk has pleaded not guilty to the February, 2016 death of 20-year-old Chad Cote on the Cote First Nation. On Tuesday, court heard that Cote’s cause of death was from blunt force trauma.
He had been hit on the head with a metal rotor, and then was stabbed 16 times. In a videotaped confession, Whitehawk admitted to killing Cote, but claimed the victim had threatened to physically and sexually assault him if he didn’t join a gang.
