Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa Tory MP Robert Sopuck expressed his opposition against the Liberal’s anti-terrorism bill known as Bill C-59.
“I think (Bill) C-59 really weakens our national security agencies and their ability to keep us safe…Trudeau’s Liberals really don’t take public safety that seriously.” Sopuck argued.
He also contended the law would make it tougher for agencies to prevent attacks.
“We had in our act, an offence that prohibited intentional advocacy or promotion or terrorism….and that was a fairly broad one.”
“What the Trudeau Liberals are doing — they are creating loopholes that those who want to radicalize our youth can exploit.” Sopuck added.
The law, the Conservative Member of Parliament says, would require law enforcement to prove that detaining an individual would be “necessary” to prevent an attack, as opposed to, what he called, the less onerous standard of “likely” to prevent an attack.
Sopuck calls the bill, introduced right before Parliament rises for the summer, “simply irresponsible.”
