A collision that was reported this long weekend turned out to be a fatal, two vehicle crash.
At 10:50 p.m. on Canada Day (1st) Melville RCMP responded to a head-on collision on Highway 10, just north of Brewer Road.
A 24-year-old man who was the lone occupant of the south-bound car was pronounced dead at the scene, as was the driver of the north-bound car – a 25-year-old woman. The woman had 3 young children in her vehicle, Mounties say, and those 3 were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
One of the passengers, a 6-month old boy, later succumb to his injuries in hospital, while the 7-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy remain in hospital in serious condition.
The woman and 3 children were from Yorkton.
This incident resulted in the closure of the highway for a brief time, but it has since re-opened. Next of kin have been notified, Victims Services have been offered to provide support, and the investigation remains ongoing.
