On it’s Twitter account the Government of Catalonia in Spain listed 34 nationalities of people that were affected by the attack that left 13 dead and at least 100 injured, including the 5 Canadians affected.
The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the van attack.
Three people have now been arrested in connection with the terror attack.
Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale says Canada remains vigilant in order protect Canadians.
“When events like this happen anywhere in the world security and police agencies re-examine everything they are doing,” Goodale said. “Extra, special attention is focused on it, so Canadians can be assured that their police and their security services are taking every necessary step to keep Canadians safe.”
Global Affairs Canada is urging Canadians in Spain to let their loved ones know they are safe.
