A Winnipeg, Manitoba truck driver has learned the severity of his sentence after admitting to killing 3 Carrot River teens in 2015.
In Melfort Court of Queen’s Bench today (Mon) Normand Lavoie got a 3 year prison term for each victim killed in the crash – plus one year for injuring another person – but will serve the sentences concurrently.
On May 30th of this year, he pleaded guilty to 3 counts of dangerous driving causing death, and 1 count of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
On May 3rd, 2015 14-year-old Justin Gaja, 15-year-old Kristian Skalicky, and 17-year-old Carter Stevenson were on the way back home from a football camp, when they were rear-ended by a semi, which killed the trio on impact.
The crash on Highway 6 in a construction zone near Spalding also injured a flag person, Sam Fetherston from B.C.
