Saskatchewan Agriculture report harvest is the province is now 65% complete, up from 45% last week.
Crops Specialist Shannon Friesen says it’s also well ahead of the 5 year average for this time of year of 40% complete.
Harvest is most advanced in the southwestern region, at 86%. Producers in our east central region now have 57% of the crops in the bin, up from 36% last week.
Friesen says crop quality has been excellent.
“That is in stark contrast to last year when we had nothing but quality issues,” Friesen pointed out.
Friesen says the majority of the province received no rainfall last week, and topsoil moisture conditions continued to worsen.
She says with the dry field conditions, many producers have indicated winter cereals may not get seeded this fall.
