A fire ban has been issued for the City of Yorkton and the R.M’s of Orkney and Wallace.
The ban is a direct response to the wicked winds that peaked at around 95 km/h in Yorkton and 130 in other areas Tuesday night.
Fire Chief Trevor Morrisey says the ban also comes after multiple incidents which threatened a lot of infrastructure and many homes, and proved to be taxing on resources.
Morrisey says the prohibition on outdoor fire pits, and anything that requires a fire permit will be in place until further notice.
He says if some rain comes or the winds die down to around 30 kilometres an hour, then the ban will be lifted.
