Tuesday’s wildfire is described by the Commissioner of Emergency Management and Fire Safety as having covered a tremendous area impacting about 30-thousand hectares in the Burstall region, and 4-thousand hectares in the Tompkins area.
50 Fire Departments in all were involved in the operation.
There is now a provincial fire ban in place for all areas south of Highway 16 to the U-S border and includes all provincial parks.
Because of the wildfire, approximately 400 animals either perished or had to be euthanized.
Arrangements have been made to properly dispose of the dead animals.
