The Swan Valley Stampeders dropped their 3rd straight game on Tuesday night, losing 6-3 to the visiting Virden Oil Capitals at the Centennial Arena in Swan River.
After a back and forth first half the opening period, the Oil Capitals would strike on their first powerplay of the night as Darren Gisti clapper would beat a screened Brett Evans for his 5th of the season to make it 1-0. They would add to their lead just under 2 minutes later as Brayden Pawluk’s writer would sneak through the five-hole of the Stamps’ net minder for his 1st MJHL goal to make it a 2 goal lead for the visitors after 1 period with the shots favouring Virden as well at 12-6.
The Oil Caps would make it a 3-0 lead just 6:46 into the 2nd as Kolten Kanaski would go top shelf over the left shoulder of Evans for his 6th of the season. The Stamps would get on the board a short time later on the PP as Trevar Mann would finish off a nice tic-tac-toe passing from line mates Connor Navrot and Keaton Jameson for his 4th to make it 3-1. But with just 1 minute remaining in the middle frame, Tristen Cross would regain the 3 goal lead for Virden with his 1st of the campaign to make it 4-1 after 40 minutes.
The Stampeders would come out with another strong start to their period as Jake Besnilain would bang home his first as a Stampeder and 1st in the MJHL to make it a 4-2 game. But once again the Oil Caps would once again respond a short-time later as this time its Justin Lee with a nice feed from Josh Belcher, he would get his 2nd of the year to make it 5-2. The two teams would exchange goals in the late stages of the 3rd from Sam Harris (SV) and Kanaski (VIR) as the Oil Caps held on for the 6-3 win.
Dalton Dosch made 29 saves on 32 shots for his 2nd win of the season in Virden goal, meanwhile Brett Evans turned aside 20 shots for Swan in the losing cause.
The Stampeders’ next game will be on Wed. Nov 1st when they are up in OCN to take on the Blizzard at 7PM MB time. The Oil Caps will go right back at it in OCN on Wednesday night.
