There were strong words during a heated debate in the Saskatchewan legislature today (Wed.). The NDP demanded Premier Brad Wall issue an apology after he raised questions about a case of sexual assault on an NDP volunteer by an NDP candidate.
Interim NDP leader Nicole Sarauer says the Premier is playing politics.
“Shame on this Premier for using these words for cheap political points,” Saraurer said. “I have complete confidence in every single member of my caucus.”
She went on to say, “If he wants to spend his final days in this place stooping this low, that’s on him.”
Wall says there are serious issues which need an answer.
“These are questions for this house, they’re questions that should be asked around the province,” Wall said. “The individual who brought forward the complaint in the first place tweeted that her friend had been sexually assaulted by another former NDP candidate at last year’s NDP provincial convention.”
Premier Wall says the NDP needs to send a strong, clear message about supporting victims of sexual assault.
The NDP says the survivor has asked her story not be used for political gain, and the SaskParty is ignoring the request.
