SaskTel is gearing up for a busy Christmas Day, communications-wise.
Roughly 710-thousand calls are expected to be made by SaskTel customers, along with 4.5-million text messages and over 95-thousand Gigabytes of data used.
Of the calls expected to be made on Christmas Day, about 40 per cent from places within Saskatchewan, 54 per cent to places within Canada and 6 per cent to the United States and internationally.
But it’s the last stat, the anticipated quantity of data usage, that SaskTel Manager of External Communications, Greg Jacobs, says is an increase from last year.
“It’s an increase of about 33 per cent,” Jacobs noted.
But when comparing the quantity of calls and texts from 2016 to what’s expected this year, he added there’s a small difference.
“For phone calls that’s a bit of a decrease and even with text messaging that’s a small decrease as well.” Jacobs said.
When communicating with a friend or family member, Jacobs recommends calling outside the busy hours — 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Other tips when calling on December 25th include verifying phone numbers in advance and taking time zones into consideration.
