While real estate might be cooling off in Canada, the market is doing very well in Yorkton.
Remax Blue Chip Realty agent Candice Jesmer says 2017 saw 16 more home sales than in 2016.
“I think that people have been watching certain type of houses that aren’t selling and that’s that 200-thousand range houses,” Jesmer explained. “But what they’re not seeing is the increase in condo sales, the increase of the first-time home buyer houses under 200-thousand.”
Jesmer says they saw a huge jump in higher-end houses as well.
She also says the winter months can see a lot of home sales.
“Most people have the perception that we do nothing; ‘in the winter time no houses sell, nobody’s moves anywhere’, but employment makes people move all the time,” she said. “We typically see lots of action in January as well – lots of first-time buyers start poking around in January.”
Jesmer says January is usually just as busy as May, when it comes to home sales.
