A document called “Ten ways to build a Canada that wins in 2018” has been released by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
“The document sets out ten priorities and objectives for businesses, decision-makers and government to use to give Canada a competitive edge, improve productivity and grow our economy.” according to the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce in a news release.
Mike Stackhouse is the Vice President of the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce.
He says out of the ten, they chose three areas, they believe, are important to small businesses in the Yorkton area.
“Basically what we decided as a group, when we sit down and discuss these things as a group, (we looked) at the ten points nationwide and said, ‘okay how do these ten apply to Yorkton? And which of these ten is the most important?'” explained Stackhouse.
They are making Canada an Agri-Food powerhouse, helping small and medium enterprises trade and grow, and providing opportunities for business development to support self-determination for indigenous peoples.
Stackhouse says those three areas are critical.
“We’re not Toronto, we’re not Vancouver,” Stackhouse said. “We’re sustainable by making sure that our smaller businesses are able to grow and are not taxed to the point that they become unviable for a small business person to stay in business.”
