The Terriers would strike first on the road as Matt Jones would cut off a cross ice pass in his own zone and head on a breakaway and then slide it five-hole on Hunter Arps for the Dinsmore product’s 5th of the season to give them an early 1-0 lead. It would stat like that until row 18:12 mark of the opening period as a scramble in front would draw out a rebound for Tyson Meyers for an easy tap-in for his 6th to draw the Mustangs even at 1-1 after 1 period.
The Mustangs would grab their first lead of the night as Ben Allen would deflect home a Loch Morrison point shot for his 3rd of the season to make it 2-1. They would add to their lead just 27 seconds later as Zach Anderson would walk across the blue-line and go top shelf on Ben Laidlaw for his 4th of the year to make it a 2 goal lead through 2 periods at 3-1.
The home team would make it a 4-1 game just 1:02 into the 3rd period on the powerplay as Ben Allen would convert his 2nd night and 4th of the season.The Terriers would get it back within one just over 3 minutes later as Saskatoon’s Parker Gavlas on a nice individual rush would sneak home his 1st SJHL goal past Hunter Arps to cut the Terriers to within two at 4-2. But late in the 3rd frame, Tyson Meyers would add his 2nd of the game to ice it for the hometown Mustangs.
Hunter Arps made 24 saves on 26 shots for his 12th win of the season while Terriers netminder Ben Laidlaw turned aside 41 shots in the losing cause.
The Terriers next game will be on Friday night when they host the Melville Millionaires at the Farrell Agencies Arena. GX94 will broadcast the game with Yorkton Dodge Junior Hockey, pregame 7:20 pxp at 7:30.
The Mustangs’ next action will also be on Friday hosting the Flin Flon Bombers.
