SGI has come to terms on an out-of-court settlement with the two bars where Catherine Mckay was served before she drove impaired, causing the crash that killed four members of the Van de Vorst family – Jordan, Chanda, Kamryn and Miguire in January of 2016.
Spokesperson Tyler McMurchy says the terms of the settlement with Industrial Kitchen and Lounge Corporation and MCDE Holdings, which at the time operated Crackers Licensed Cocktail & Dining Room, won’t be disclosed.
In court, it was established that McKay had been served at both locations and was observed to be highly intoxicated.
When she crashed, she was three times the legal limit.
SGI took legal action to hold the two businesses accountable for not doing enough to prevent one of their customers from driving away highly impaired , resulting in four needless deaths.
McMurchy says SGI intends to consider legal action in any similar cases.
SGI also filed a statement of claim against Catherine McKay.
No statement of defence was filed so the court has issued a judgement against her, which allows SGI to take action to collect the amounts paid out in the accident claim.
