The federal minister of Agriculture met with his provincial counterpart in Saskatchewan today (Wed.) to discuss efforts to improve movement of grain to port.
Federal agriculture minister Lawrence MacAulay says the senate should soon approve the new grain transportation legislation to push the railways to step up service.
“Bill C-49 is the start of putting the proper system in place in Western Canada to make sure we can move the grain in a timely many. It won’t happen overnight but we have to make sure that it happens with the problem this year.” said MacAulay.
Saskatchewan Agriculture minister Lyle Stewart is also pushing for passage of the new legislation.
