The Ministry of Justice apologized after misidentifying two members of the Humboldt Broncos.
The office mistook the body of 18-year-old Humboldt Broncos’ goalie Parker Tobin for that of Xavier Labelle, who survived Friday’s bus crash, but is among the injured.
Former NHL’er Sheldon Kennedy, who is in Humboldt, says no one should start laying blame for the mix-up.
“What I know in these types of situations is that what we can’t do is we can’t start pointing fingers,” Kennedy said. “I think we have to stick together; we have to look at this and understand all those pieces.”
The ministry says identifying the victims was challenging because the young men were of similar builds and had all dyed their hair blond to support the team’s playoff run.
It says family members were told about the situation last night and have been understanding under the circumstances.
