The Saskatchewan Government released the 2018 provincial budget yesterday (Tues) and Yorkton is still feeling it from last year.
Yorkton Mayor Bob Maloney says small towns and cities are still feeling the pinch from losing the Grants in Lieu program.
“In Yorkton its a million dollars year over year that’s gone from our budget and won’t be coming back. With that said the province did listen, they came out, they offered some back filling for the City of Yorkton over $200 thousand dollars of funding that will be coming to us trying to mediate what we’ve lost. So there was some move in our direction and I certainly credit them for that.” said Maloney.
On a positive note, Maloney said council and administration have been able to continue normal operations due to no cuts to critical services.
