The Wenatchee Wild have secured the top seed heading into the semifinals at the 2018 RBC Cup.
August Von Ungern and Zak Galambos each struck twice as the Wild toppled the Wellington Dukes 7-1 on Thursday to wrap up the preliminary round of Canada’s national junior A hockey championship with an undefeated record.
The two teams will face off again on Saturday in one of two semifinal games, with Wellington finishing the five-team round robin in fourth place.
In Thursday’s other preliminary-round matchup, the host Chilliwack Chiefs downed the Steinbach Pistons 4-1.
Corey Andonovski, Ethan Bowen, Kaden Pickering and Harrison Blaisdell scored while Mathieu Caron made 25 saves for the Chiefs (3-1-0), who will face the Ottawa Jr. Senators (2-2-0) in Saturday’s other semifinal.
Drew Worrad responded for the Pistons (0-4-0), who have been eliminated from the playoff round. Matthew Radomsky stopped 37-of-41 shots in defeat.
