*The Canadian government strongly opposes a U.S proposal to put troops along the border to prevent non-essential crossings.

*The U.S reports more than 81,000 infections, more than 1,000 deaths.

*Northern Italy sees a decline in cases, but officials fear numbers in the south will grow.
