Manitoba Government Asking Closed Child Care Centres to Re-Open to Take in Children of Health Care, Emergency Workers

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Manitoba government is asking closed child care centres to re-open.
As of Tuesday, more than 12-hundred children of health care and other emergency services workers have been matched with an available space.
Families Minister Heather Stefanson says health care and other emergency services workers can apply for a child care space by filling out a request form by next Wednesday.
“This includes healthcare workers, emergency service providers, corrections workers, law enforcement, fire and paramedic, direct social service workers and child protection workers,” Stefanson explained.
“I also want to be clear that child care centres should be returning parent fees if child care has not been provided to those families, and they should not charge parents to hold spots during these uncertain times.” she added.
Beginning on Tuesday, April 14th, all parents who work in critical services, will be able to access child care spaces available in licensed facilities.
