The list of RM’s and other communities issuing fire bans continues to grow, with the Rural Municipalities of Orkney and Wallace and the city of Yorkton the latest to do so.
Reasons for the prohibition remain the same: dry, hot weather conditions. This includes open fires, back yard fire pits, etc. with the exception of barbecues.
Yorkton Fire Chief Trevor Morrissey says the ban will be lifted when either the winds are below 25 kilometres an hour, the temperature drops below 25 degrees, some precipitation comes our way or the combination of the three.
He adds they’ll be monitoring the conditions and provide updates every 24 hours.
