The first human case of the West Nile Virus in Manitoba has been identified.
The person was a man in his 40’s and may have caught the virus sometime last month in the southern region of the province. He experienced neurological symptoms and was hospitalized.
An investigation into the case is ongoing.
Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living say even though the cool weather has slowed the activity of the Culex Tarsalis, the mosquito carrying WNV, the risk of exposure right now is moderate.
The department also says this time of year historically is a high risk period.
