It’s been confirmed by Correctional Service Canada that one inmate at a penitentiary in P.A. died as a result from Wednesday’s riot.
The lone fatality was identified as 43 year old Jason Bird, who was serving a two-year sentence for break and enter convictions, and was only at the penitentiary for about 10 months.
CSC also say an additional 6 inmates were hurt in the riot that started when inmates refused to be locked up as part of their routine and started barricading the entrance to the unit.
One guard was taken to hospital after being hit with a bodily fluid, but no other staff were injured.
Correction Service Canada will do their own investigation into the incident, while the RCMP and Coroner’s office will look into Bird’s death.
