The Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipeline projects have been given the green light by U .S. President Donald Trump, after signing executive orders.
He stated afterwards that American steel should be used for pipelines built in the United States, adding “we are going to renegotiate some of the terms” of the Keystone XL project.
The orders are a complete 180 from former President Barack Obama, who stopped Keystone citing environmental concerns.
It also follows protests from the Standing Rock Sioux tribe and its supporters on the Dakota Access project, which they said threatens drinking water and Native American sites, though the company that wants to build the pipeline says it will be safe.
