Saskatchewan’s deficit of over a billion dollars has been a hot topic amongst the NDP and Saskatchewan Party.
Premier Brad Wall painted a grim financial picture at the SUMA convention in Saskatoon, where he stated the deficit increased to 1.2 billion.
Even though the government says everything is on the table when it comes to improving the bottom line, in the form of wage rollbacks, and cuts, Wall says returning the budget to balance might not happen in the 2017-18 fiscal year.
This has lead to the NDP heavily criticizing the SaskParty, arguing that the Premier should have saved more during the boom times.
The NDP’s Trent Wootherspoon also argued that either the premier has ignored the reality of the province’s economy or is out of touch on the job front.
