Brennan Roy and Jesse Baird scored on the power play as the host Cobourg Cougars topped the Brooks Bandits 5-2 on Thursday in the final game of preliminary play at the RBC Cup, Canada’s junior A hockey championship.
Baird’s goal was the eventual winner for the Cougars (2-1-0-1). Connor MacEachern, George Miranda and Spencer Roberts also scored.
The tournament’s semifinals are Saturday. The Penticton Vees will play Cobourg in the afternoon and the Terrebonne Cobras ) face Brooks in the evening game.
Earlier, Pierre-Anthony Martineau scored and added two assists to lead the Cobras to a 3-1 win over Penticton in the preliminary-round finale for both teams.
