Members of the Conservative Party of Canada have spoken.
Regina-Qu’Appelle MP Andrew Scheer is now the new leader of the federal Tories, after defeating 12 other candidates in the campaign to replace former leader Stephen Harper.
Rona Ambrose, who served as leader on an interim basis, is stepping down.
In his victory speech, Scheer called on his fellow peers to be united and that the fight to return to power in 2019 starts now.
Scheer accused the Trudeau Liberals of being more concerned with taking selfies and photo-ops than creating prosperity for struggling Canadians. He also slammed the Liberal government’s carbon tax, saying it is basically a “cash grab”.
The former House of Commons speaker promised to keep the party true to its roots — that is working for the average Canadian and not, what he called “Ottawa insiders”.
