With the start of the 2017-18 academic year, the Good Spirit School Division has entered the final year of a five-year strategic plan to guide their priorities for staff and students.
Director of Education Quintin Robertson says that they have four main goals heading into the new school year.
“We’ve set our sites squarely on our literacy rates of 85 per cent of kids reading at or above grade level by 2020, a goal centred around students writing at grade level by 2020 at 80 per cent – the same for our math area,” Robertson said.
“We have set our targets for an 85 per cent 3-year grad rate, [and] a 90 per cent 5-year grad rate. Lastly we have goals around reduction in anxiety and depression [among students]”
Robertson says staff and families will soon be receiving a survey, regarding how their needs are being met, in order to help guide the division’s course heading into the future.
