Frost was reported in central and nortwestern Manitoba this past Sunday night.
Manitoba Agriculture crops specialist Anne Kirk says a hard frost hit the Swan River region.
Kirk says it likely caused some crop damage.
“Some of those crops like soy beans or corn that may still be standing in the fields and have a lot of green [tissue] would be impacted by the frost.” She said.
Kirk says they should have a better idea of the extent of damage in a few days.
When it comes to the harvest itself Kirk says the spring cereal harvest is winding down and the canola harvest is also nearing completion.
“In some areas of the southwest, we have some later seeded canola…and also in the Swan River area we are seeing a bit more standing canola also due to some later seeding.” Kirk reported.
Spring wheat yields of 75 to 80 bu/acre have been reported around Roblin and 60 to 90 bu/acre around Swan River.
Canola yields have been in the 50-60 bushel range.
