A decision from the provincial government is going to make a big difference in an upcoming accreditation review of the University of Saskatchewan College of Medicine.
The province has decided to restore $20-million in funding for the college.
U of S President Peter Stoicheff says this will show the medical accreditors that the province financially supports and is committed to the university and the college.
It also means the $20-million now won’t have to be taken out of the university’s overall operating budget.
Stoicheff expects this will still mean working toward a -5.6 per cent budget, but not something larger than that.
The accreditation body will check out the College of Medicine from October 29th to November 1st.
In October of 2015, the college was taken off of probation and since then, has been continuing to address all the standards in preparation for the upcoming review.
