The government of Saskatchewan addressed the latest regarding the legal issues with Husky Energy.
Husky is facing 10 different charges, after 225 thousand liters of oil spilled from a pipeline near Maidstone, with a great amount entering the North Saskatchewan River in 2016.
Environment Minister Dustin Duncan says a potential fine of a million dollars and the litany of charges Husky’s facing shows just how seriously the province is taking the spill.
“We take this very seriously and to my knowledge there hasn’t been a charge with respect to the unintended release of oil from a pipeline in the provinces history” explained Duncan.
The NDP’s Cathy Sproule said it’s a long time coming, saying it’s been almost two years since the spill and the inspection report on it needs to be released.
