There’s concern that cottage owners at Crooked Lake could be faced with a huge increase in the cost of their annual leases.
Yorkton-Melville M-P Cathay Wagantall says the leaseholders recently received notice that their 2015-2019 leases would be increasing by 650 to 700 percent over the 2009 rate.
Wagantall says it could leave some of the cabin owners in financial hardship.
“A lot of these are cabin owners for the summer, a lot of them are also individuals that this is there retirement home, or live year-round,” Wagantall said. “It’s a circumstance that’s quite concerning for them.”
She is urging the Sakimay First Nation and the cottage owners, to negotiate a fair settlement for both sides.
A meeting was held in Grenfell on Saturday, to discuss this very issue.
