The University of Regina has scrapped it’s men’s volleyball team as well as the men’s and women’s wrestling teams.
The U of R says in a news release that the cuts were also made to save money.
In addition, reducing the amount of sports teams was one of the recommendations from a U or R Athletics report that was done in January 2017.
The report says decreasing from 16 to 13 U sports teams falls in line with other post secondary institutions, of similar size, while balancing the male to female athlete ratio on campus.
It also said, “supporting 16 programs is unsustainable”.
Three positions, including two full-time coaching jobs, are also affected by the decrease in teams.
