The NDP are questioning why MLA’s permitted to run for federal office are still holding provincial seats.
Opposition leader Ryan Meili says this practice potentially distracts MLA’s, and that if one of his members were to run for federal office it would be expected they step down once they won the nomination.
However, Premier Scott Moe says that hasn’t been the case.
“They’ve been in attendance virtually everyday in the House here during session and that would be the expectation that they continue to represent the people of their constituencies until such a time that they would resign from their position to run.” Premier Moe said.
Moe also says it’s been the custom for years, mentioning former NDP MLA John Solomon, who won the federal
seat for Regina-Lumsden Lake Centre in 1993.
Currently, MLA`s Corey Tochor and Warren Steinley are both running for federal office.
