Last week, 10 girls ages 12 to 15 had the opportunity to try a variety of trades and technology through a week long camp at Saskatchewan Polytechnic.
The camp called Girls Exploring Trades and Technology or GETT, has been running consistently for 9 years says camp organizer, Brittany Grimsdale.
She says this year they covered plumbing, soldering and toilet setting and woodworking, just to name a few.
Grimsdale adds the week long camp provided the girls with a lot of different exposure to different trades and tools and now she’s hopeful they can make some more informed decisions about their futures.
This year the main project was making night tables out of recycled pallets.
Grimsdale says she would like to see the camp be offered more than just once a year as they currently have a long waiting list of those wanting to participate in GETT however the proper funding isn’t available.
Those interested in signing up for next year can visit the Sask Polytech Campus.
