Speaking from New Brunswick, Premier Scott Moe says Saskatchewan is thrilled to have Ontario join their legal fight with Ottawa over the federally imposed carbon tax.
Moe and Ontario Premier Doug Ford held a joint news conference this morning announcing the partnership before entering two days of meetings with their provincial counterparts.
“A carbon tax reduces jobs, a carbon tax reduces opportunities, by moving them from our Canadian communities to other areas of the world where they have no such policy,” Premier Scott Moe said.
“This made-in-Ottawa carbon tax plan finds our nation now in this position: we have two provinces in compliance, we have two provinces in court, and we have the rest of the country not meeting the federal carbon tax backstop.”
Ford says by joining forces a strong message will be sent to Ottawa.
“Ontario will support Saskatchewan in intervening in the reference case they have launched with the court of appeal,” Ford said.
Ford says it is important to display unity.
