The NDP is calling on the Saskatchewan government to introduce a First Nations child advocate.
It is one of many moves NDP has said are a long time coming to help relieve the foster care system.
NDP Deputy leader Carla Beck says the SaskParty government has made promises similar to this in 2010, 2013, and 2017.
“What we’ve seen since 2013 is 5% more of the children in care being indigenous. The numbers overall are rising to over 4 thousand indigenous kids in care in the province.” said Beck.
First Nations and Metis relations critic Buckley Belanger says this is a problem the government can’t ‘arrest its way out of, which he was referencing to the “Justice for our Stolen Children” camp outside of the legislature.
