A proposal to move the Municipal Election day ahead one year was discussed at last night’s (Mon) Yorkton City Council meeting.
Yorkton City Councillor Quinn Haider says he’s okay with either the provincial government moving the civic vote to October 27, 2021 or to keep it at October 28, 2020.
The latter date comes five days before the Provincial vote, which is on November 2nd, 2020.
Mayor Bob Maloney says it’s an idea the government should really be asking citizens what they think of the proposed date, since they are the ones who vote for Mayor and Council.
But Maloney understands MLA’s wouldn’t want to be campaigning at the same time as civic officials.
The intention of the SaskParty’s proposal is to avoid interfering with provincial and federal elections and avoid voter and election worker fatigue.
