Yorkton Fire Crews were pressed into action this afternoon (Fri) at about 2:45 to a fire outside a house.
The blaze started in the backyard and spread to the southwest portion of the home. The fire also did exterior damage to neighbouring houses. Fire Chief Trevor Morrissey reported a lot of smoke damage.
Interviews with eyewitnesses were conducted after the fire was doused, and Morrissey believes the fire was caused by smoking.
“Again I do want to ask people to be very cautious, it’s very dry outside,” requested Morrissey. “That smoking material can ignite that dry grass, even up to half-an-hour to an hour later.”
Nobody was hurt during the fire.
