The Conservative M.P for Yorkton-Melville says Canadians may be breathing a sigh of relief after the Canada-Mexico-U.S trade deal was signed.
“Certainly, it takes away at least a certain level of the insecurity that Canada is facing economically — not knowning what this is going to look like — now we know.” Cathay Wagantall said.
But Wagantall says there are still areas of concern
“It really doesn’t give Canada anything new and we’ve, of course, given a fair amount of concessions in the process,” she said. “On automotives, there is concern that we’ve set a limit now on the number of vehicles that can go into the states.”
She says another area of concern is having the Canadian dairy market open to the U.S.
“From what I’m hearing, there isn’t clarity on whether prices will go down or go up for Canadians but on that file I know that Canada has the best dairy, the best beef.”
She says it’s a wait and see game to find out how it all falls into place.
