The City of Yorkton held a household waste collection day last weekend.
Close to 45-hundred kilograms of household hazardous waste, from cleaners to batteries, was collected.
110 people participated in the event, bringing items that were unwanted, and hazardous to the environment.
JeanAnne Teliske, Landfill and Waste Manager for the City of Yorkton, explained why it’s important to host an event like this.
“These types of materials aren’t supposed to end up in our garbage and in our landfill ’cause they might be negatively impacting our environment. When we safely dispose of them, we know that they are not ending up at our landfill and they’re not going to have any negative environmental impacts down the road.”
Teliske adds the city hopes to host another event like this, in October of 2019.
