The Piapot First Nation has declared a state of emergency after its water treatment plant burned down last night (Mon).
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials say it started inside the plant around 11:30 p.m. before spreading outside as a grass fire.
The plant, first built in 2011, is the main source of water for the entire reserve.
Officals note they are working to get a portable water treatment plant installed as well as getting water from the Muscowpetung First Nation, and in the meantime, ask residents to conserve water.
They add the plant was insured and are in the process of gathering the necessary paperwork to rebuild it.
