The Mayor of Yorkton says it’s not perfect, but they’ll take it.
That’s Bob Maloney’s reaction to the news that the next provincial election will be held on October 26th, 2020, with the municipal and school board elections scheduled for two weeks later, on November 9th.
“I think the government listened to people around the province, extending for a year was something that the government was willing to look at, but people said ‘no’ to it so I think they did make an appropriate move.” Maloney added.
Under the existing laws, the provincial election would’ve been held five days after municipal elections.
While the Maloney is okay with it, having the elections only two weeks apart could cause some problems.
“I think there is a risk of voter burnout, especially confusion in issues as you go forward, but I think we need to give the voters credit for being smarter than the average bear. I think they understand the difference between provincial and municipal…I think voters will sort that out.”
