A “Year in Giving” report for 2018 done by GoFundMe revealed the Humboldt Broncos bus crash was the second largest fundraiser this year.
It raised nearly $15.2-million after the team’s bus collided with a semi while en route to a playoff game in April.
A judge recently approved the distribution of those funds, with $525-thousand going to each of the 16 families who lost a loved one and $475-thousand to each of the 13 players who were injured.
It was second only to the TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund which started last December as part of the hashtag MeToo movement in the U.S.
That campaign raised nearly $22-million, which was allocated to legal costs for victims of sexual harassment, assault, abuse and retaliation in the workplace.
