Today is Ukrainian Christmas Eve, for those who follow the Julian Calendar.

Many celebrating the culture’s traditions will have a supper this evening comprised of 12 meatless dishes prepared with vegetable shortening or cooking oil.

The 12 dishes represent the 12 apostles.
