This Morning’s Derailment Near Highway 16 Forces Evacuations

This morning’s train derailment and fire has forced officials to evacuate the village of Guernsey. Highway 16 remains closed in both directions, while C.P Rail and emergency officials deal with the mishap. It wasn’t immediately clear what the train was hauling, but some witnesses say as many as 30 cars may have been involved. It’s not known how long the highway will remain closed. It was December 9th, over a million litres of oil was lost after 33 oil tank cars and one hopper car derailed, along Highway 16 between Guernsey and Plunkett.
